As a Manager of Data Engineering at this growing scale up, you will take ownership of our Data Intelligence Platform. You will lead a team of Data Engineers to ingest, transform and structure data following best practices to maintain an accurate, scalable and consumable source of truth in our Data Lakehouse, Databricks.
You will be hands-on in this role and deliver alongside your team. You will mentor your team in order to educate them in best practices and principles, as well as own key stakeholder relationships with system owners and the external vendors we use. You will be at the heart of a fast-paced, high growth environment where you will help drive real-world impact.
Your impact as a Manager of Data Engineering, your ownership of and contribution to our Data Intelligence Platform is fundamental to enabling our Data Analysts and Scientists to build reporting, machine learning models and extract actionable insights from data to drive strategic business decisions and enable data driven product functionality – including supporting our cutting edge Gen AI work.
What will I be doing?
● Leading and mentoring a team of Data Engineers, including actively supporting and guiding the development of the people in your team
● Owning and being accountable for our Data Intelligence Platform, managing a portfolio of ongoing and project based work
● Ingest, cleanse, transform and model data; combining datasets from multiple systems for downstream consumption and visualisation
● Developing and building partnerships with senior stakeholders acrossEngineering, Product, Business Systems & Infrastructure teams
● Uplift and maintain governance of our data assets including access controls, monitoring, quality assurance and accurate metadata
● Tracking and monitoring costs of our Data Intelligence Platform and other related tools
● Championing experimentation with new approaches, techniques and solutions to the challenges we face
● Fostering an innovative and collaborative culture with your team and the broader company
● Ensuring that our Data Intelligence Platform adheres to our privacy and security policies
What are we looking for?
● Experience leading a Data Engineering team working in an agile environment
● Experience ingesting, clean, transform and build data models from both batch and streaming sources for use by Data Analysts and Data Scientists
● Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly the ability to explain complex technical concepts to less technical senior stakeholders
● Experience developing, deploying and monitoring cloud based solutions
● Strong understanding of data modelling concepts including Dimensional Modelling and Slow Changing Dimensions
● Comfort with ambiguity, a fast-paced environment, and rapid business growth
